Pandemic Faculty Mentoring Program

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, women’s research and scholarly output have been deeply impacted. Submissions to academic journals decreased and those particularly affected are women of color who are junior faculty. In fact, the pandemic poses a significant challenge for academia as it seems to not only exacerbate the already existing gender disparities, but also undermine the gender equity progress made over the past few decades.

As an intervention, the Gender+ Justice Initiative launched the Pandemic Faculty Mentoring Program that consists of pairing Georgetown senior faculty with junior faculty who work on similar issues across campuses and disciplines to form supportive relationships, sharing academic and personal experiences.

The program provided exchange and collaboration between scholars working on similar issues, practical advice on dealing with personal and academic challenges, and support for junior faculty in challenging times.
